With the holidays almost here, local law enforcement officers want to make sure the number of traffic fatalities doesn't go up. There were 29 traffic deaths in Alachua County last year, and there have been 43 already this year.
To put an end to traffic fatalities, the Florida Highway Patrol is teaming up with other law enforcement agencies in Alachua County for Operation Aggressive Concentrated Enforcement, or ACE. Florida Highway Patrol Spokesperson Lt. Mike Burroughs says, "We are going to be in unmarked cars. We may even hold some hard hat details where we have law enforcement officers pose as construction workers."
State Troopers say about 30 extra units will be on Alachua County's roads over the next several months, with most of the emphasis on holiday traffic.
