A driver slammed his car early Tuesday into a stopped Florida Highway Patrol cruiser on Interstate 95, pushing the patrol car into another vehicle the trooper had pulled over and injuring the officer, authorities said.
Trooper Mike Olaciregui, 33, stopped Jeffrey Fleuridor's car just south of the Oakland Park Boulevard exit shortly after 1 a.m. for an unspecified traffic violation, FHP Lt. Roger Reyes said. Olaciregui and Fleuridor were walking toward the trooper's Chevrolet Camaro, which had its emergency lights on, when a Corvette veered into the emergency lane and crashed into the rear of the Camaro. The impact pushed the Camaro into Fleuridor's car, and the Corvette then struck Olaciregui and Fleuridor, Reyes said. The trooper and Fleuridor suffered minor injuries to their legs. The driver of the Corvette, Laurence Arnstein, 63, of Boca Raton, also suffered minor injuries.
Reyes said drivers should steer clear of the lane closest to where troopers are working.
