Florida Highway Patrol officials say this past Memorial Day weekend was very busy on the highways as millions of people headed to their vacation destinations.
Memorial Day weekend is known for fatalities. Troopers say preliminary reports for the entire state of Florida show 28 traffic deaths, four being alcohol related. The good news is, that number is down from 46 fatalities last year.
FHP Troop B Spokesperson Lt. Mike Burroughs says, "Troopers this past weekend issued a total of 430 tickets for speed. We made 12 DUI arrests. We worked eight crashes that were alcohol involved even though they didn't involve death and we issued over 170 tickets for seatbelt and child restraint violations."
The FHP's annual 'Click It or Ticket' campaign is going on right now. If they pull you over and you aren't wearing your seatbelt, you will get a ticket. The campaign wraps up this Sunday, June 6th.
