Police emphasize seat-belt message

The Florida Highway Patrol and other law-enforcement agencies are pushing the seat-belt message especially hard through the "Click it or Ticket," campaign. Police, deputy sheriffs and troopers are cracking down on drivers who violate Florida's seat-belt and child safety-seat laws between now and June 6.

More than half of all adults who die in crashes are not buckled up, and six of 10 children who are killed in crashes are unrestrained, according to the Highway Patrol. Research shows that drivers who don't use seat belts are far less likely to buckle up their children or put smaller ones in car seats, while drivers who wear their seat belts are three times more likely to buckle up their kids.
