Stormy Weather Leads To More Than 35 Accidents

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- Monday morning's stormy start couldn't have come at a worse time. The rains pounded Central Florida streets before dawn, meaning the ride to work was challenging.

There were nearly 40 crashes across Central Florida on Monday morning.

"Looked out the window, saw a car laying upside down in our yard, that was it, called 9-1-1," says eyewitness Russ Denham.

Crashes, lots of them, kept law enforcement busy. Central Florida had more accidents than any area in the state Monday morning.

"Central Florida is the busiest places for crashes and that's even if it's not raining," says Kim Miller, Florida Highway Patrol.

Thirty-seven accident scenes for FHP's troop D isn't a record. That was set during a nine-hour stretch on Valentine's Day. But it was enough to put every trooper on the street.

Along with slowing down, turning on your lights, not your flashers (which is against the law), and giving others more room, FHP also wants crashes moved without a wrecker whenever possible. Not doing so could lead to a ticket and another crash
