FHP Trooper Hurt During Chase

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper was injured during a brief chase Saturday when his cruiser slid into a ditch east of Lakeland, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

William Tindle Jr., 43, was treated at Lakeland Regional Medical Center for cuts on his head, FHP trooper Larry Coggins said.

Tindle crashed about 1:30 p.m. on K-Ville Road as he chased a speeding motorcyclist who had swerved onto the shoulder to pass several stopped cars, Coggins said.

When Tindle drove onto the shoulder in an attempt to get the license plate number, his car slid into a ditch, Coggins said.

The motorcyclist fled west on K-Ville Road, Coggins said.

The FHP reported the motorcycle is a red, white and black late-model Honda or Kawasaki. The driver is described as white, in his 20s and was wearing a gray sleeveless shirt with a red, black and white helmet.
