General News: Florida Highway Patrol officers to target aggressive drivers

West Palm Beach, Florida-AP -- The Florida Highway Patrol is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at aggressive drivers. The agency has more patrol cars on the highways than ever in a two-day bid to cut down on road rage. It's also using motorcycles, video cameras, radar and airplanes. They began Operation "Safe Ride" after hearing complaints about aggressive drivers weaving, tailgating and speeding. But some state lawmakers say the effort should last longer than two days. The vice chair of the state House highway safety committee says drivers will simply obey the rules for two days and then forget. He's calling for troopers to be paid more, so they don't leave for other agencies.
