Highway patrol seeks to curb road rage

Col. Chris Knight, director of the Florida Highway Patrol, this week announced plans for a statewide operation against aggressive driving, which is scheduled for today and Friday.

"Operation Safe Ride" was begun in response incidents of road rage throughout Florida, an FHP news release said. Troopers will be looking for motorists who are speeding, tailgating, driving or passing on the shoulder, making unsafe lane changes or displaying other aggressive driving behavior or habits.

During the two-day enforcement detail, the troopers will focus on every interstate, Florida's Turnpike and other major state roads. Some drivers may be charged with reckless driving and arrested by troopers if their driving behavior warrants such action, the FHP said.
