FHP Launches Crackdown Aimed At Aggressive Drivers

The Florida Highway Patrol is launching a new campaign aimed at aggressive drivers. Operation Safe Ride kicks off Thursday.

State troopers say they'll use a variety of tools to crack down on dangerous drivers, including video cameras, radar, airplanes, and unmarked police cars.

A spokesman says troopers will go beyond writing tickets for reckless drivers and actually arrest them.

"We have more traffic in March, more visitors from out of state who may not be familiar with our area, so we're trying to send a message to drive carefully, obey the speed limits, wear your seat belt and pay attention to what you're doing," explains Lt. Bill Leeper.

By the way, March is the deadliest month on Florida roads because of the huge number of students on spring break. Operation Safe Ride runs through Friday.
