For fans and foes of motorized scooters: The Florida Highway Patrol is warning us all to keep an eye out for them.
State law calls them motor vehicles, which means you need a license to operate them legally on a public road. Fact is, lots of kids got them as Christmas presents.
"(Kids are) unfamiliar with traffic laws," Col. Christopher Knight, Highway Patrol director, stated in a press release. "Often, they're also oblivious to traffic hazards and to ... problems such as blind spots, slick roads, and long stopping distances."
That could mean problems for you. Keep your eyes open. And, parents, keep an eye on your scooterized kids. Check the Highway Safety Web site at www.flhsmv.gov/ddl/mopeds1.html.
