Trooper Jefrall Betancourt
Trooper Jefrall Betancourt

Trooper Jefrall Betancourt, a recent graduate of the Florida Highway Patrol's 111th Basic Recruit Class, left a unique gift behind for the FHP Training Academy on behalf of himself and other members of the 111th Recruit Class. Betancourt, who has extensive experience in construction and computer graphics, painstakingly constructed a replica model of the old FHP Training Academy out of balsa wood and plastic materials. It took Trooper Betancourt approximately five months to build the model “ all of the time constructing the model was spent after hours and on weekends during his Academy training. The 111th Recruit Class was the final group to have been trained at the old FHP Training Academy, and, due to the timing of the move from the old to the new facility, actually became the first class to have been trained at the new Academy, which is located in Gadsden County at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Training Center. It has become a tradition for each graduating recruit class to leave something behind as a gift to the Academy, in remembrance and thanks for the excellent training they received. Trooper Betancourt said "Through God's help, this project was accomplished."

The men and women of the FHP thank Trooper Betancourt for a gift that will be enjoyed for many years by current and future members of the Florida Highway Patrol.

Betancourt is assigned to Troop D-Orlando.
