During vehicle operations recruits learn the physiological and
psychological factors that impact vehicle operation and controls. The
recruits spend 40 hours in vehicle operations studying the basic components
of defensive driving and emergency vehicle operations; the civil and
criminal liability applicable to law enforcement driving; what to look for
during routine maintenance and inspection of a police vehicle; causes and
types of skids; how to recover from several types of skids; and basic
driving skills and techniques.
