Congratulations to Trooper Jonathan Young for being selected as the Florida Highway Patrol Trooper of the Month for October 2006, for preventing a suicide when a motorist attempted to hang himself.

On October 11th at approximately 10:00 PM, Trooper Jonathan Young responded to a call on I-75 at mile marker 368 regarding an individual who was seen sitting beside the roadway with a rope around his neck.

Upon arriving at the scene, Trooper Young found a man sitting on the roof of his truck with a rope around his neck. When Trooper Young approached the man while in his patrol car, the man slid himself off the roof of his truck and attempted to hang himself. Trooper Young quickly got out of his patrol car, ran to the man, and held him up to get enough slack in the rope to remove it from the man's neck.

Trooper Young is to be commended for his quick thinking and quick actions that stopped a suicide attempt. Congratulations to Trooper Jonathan Young for being selected as the Florida Highway Patrol Trooper of the Month for October 2006.
