Kudos to the Florida Highway Patrol for cracking down on speeding drivers in the construction zone on Highway 85 in front of the Northwest Florida Regional Airport in Okaloosa County. I travel that stretch at least a dozen times a week. Sometimes it's absolutely terrifying.
I actually was stopped on day one of construction by an Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy. I really wasn't paying attention. I was on auto-pilot going to work at the Armament Museum from Valparaiso. He was nice and gave me a warning and informed me the lowered speed zones were for the safety of the construction workers. I thanked him and promised I would obey the newly posted signs.
Each day through that zone is nervewracking for those of us who are obeying the speed limit. Especially those who whip around us (I guess to teach us a lesson). I am afraid that someone is going to clip me and spin me into other cars.
At approximately 11 a.m. this morning I was headed to work after going to Valparaiso to pick up some lunch. There were three patrolman in the construction area and two of them had stopped speeders! Thanks for recognizing the need for more policing in this area.
