While traveling on July 1, 2011 from Clearwater, Florida to South Carolina, one of my tires came off. I was able to pull over safely, however I was obviously distressed. I was stranded on US 301N in the Hawthorne area. My car was barely off the road.

While waiting for a tow truck, I was delighted when a Florida Highway patrol vehicle stopped to check on me. I did not get the trooper's name, but the State tag number was 0176. The trooper told me he was traveling from Ft. Myers to Jacksonville to switch out his vehicle.

The trooper was genuinely kind and his stopping and speaking helped calm me. I discussed with him emptying my trunk to have the spare available when the tow truck arrived. He told me not to do so, I was too close to the road, and to wait for the tow truck. The tow truck driver actually put up flares before changing the tire, because the car was so close to the road.

I thanked the trooper for stopping. Please extend to him again my appreciation for his kindness and safety advice.
