On Wednesday evening, October 5, 2011, I was driving east on Interstate 10 (just west of Madison), when I had car trouble. I pulled to the side and tried to remember the last mile marker I had seen.
I tried to contact AAA, but the phone signal was so weak, it took several attempts to get a call through. I was waiting for them to call me back to let me know how long it would be before assistance would arrive It was beginning to get dark, there was nothing around, my phone signal was weak and I was traveling alone. I am not the type to scare easily, but I was beginning to get nervous.
AAA had still not called me back when blue lights started flashing in my rearview mirror. I don’t remember a time I was so happy to see lights flashing behind me!!
Help arrived in the form of FHP-CVE Officer Lents. He pinpointed my location for AAA and he waited with me until help arrived to get me back on the road. This officer demonstrated great concern for my safety. He was helpful and professional. He was everything you expect a Highway Patrol Officer to be and more.
Please express my appreciation to Officer Lents for the way he came to my assistance. I was really relieved when he arrived. He is an asset to your agency and represents the Highway Patrol in an outstanding manner.
Thanks to all of the FHP officers who aide, assist and protect those of us traveling the highways in Florida; special thanks to Officer Lents!
