This communication is in regard to an incident involving myself on Wednesday October 05, 2011. It occurred on I-75 approximately 12 miles south of exit 141 at about 1200 hours. I experienced a problem with my vehicle and removed it from the roadway to a location on the side about 5-6 feet from lane edge. Lt. Bush arrived moments later. In short I want to bring to your attention my observation of his conduct. Beginning with his approach, placement of his vehicle and his approach / contact with me he was a complete professional. This professionalism continued through out our contact until the completion of the incident. His merging of officer / public safety awareness with apparent genuine interest in customer service makes Lt. Bush clearly a credit to an already well respected law enforcement organization. ( 22 year career, worked most areas & 8 years as a training officer and in-service trainer )

This incident would typically be perceived as minor however Lt. Bush treated it and myself with concern and respect. I did not identify myself as a retired LEO until the completion of our contact thus he was treating me as he would any citizen he encountered and not providing any special treatment. It's been my experience over the years that the professionalism of the officer / trooper in the field is of significantly more value for public relations than can ever be obtained by all the public relations people an organization can hire. Furthermore the quality of the citizen relationships so developed are much stronger and loyal. Lt. Bush was a significant help to me; beyond I'm sure what he realizes and he represented himself and your Department with great respect by treating me in kind. To conclude I wish to thank Lt. David G. Bush and all personnel of the Florida Highway Patrol. God Bless You All. Sgt. D. L. Apperson / Albuquerque Police Department , New Mexico ( Retired )
