To whom it may concern,

My father is in the early stages of dementia and became lost while driving this past Wednesday evening (Oct. 22). My brother, sister and I filed a missing person's report with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office on Thursday and then waited for news of him. Somehow he ended up stuck on the side of the road in Columbia County out in the middle of "nowhere". I received a phone call from paramedics and from Officer W.G. Smith (1109) at 1:30am Friday morning with the wonderful news that my dad was O.K. He was tired, disoriented and hungry but he was found! Officer Smith was so helpful and kind in his dealings with my father and myself. He spent quite a bit of time reassuring me and assisting my dad. I feel so fortunate that someone with such a kind heart found my dad. I just wanted to say a big "Thank you" to Officer Smith and to tell him how grateful I am that he is serving the people of our state.

Sincerely,
Elaine Hawkins
