Dear Colonel Czernis:
On March 29, 2009 at approximately 4PM, my wife and I were driving
north on I-95 just south of Highway 16 when the left front tire blew
out. My wife was driving and managed to navigate from the far left
lane to the right lane and take the St. Augustine exit ramp where she
parked the car on the shoulder of the road. Needless to say, the
experience left us shattered as we contemplated what might have
happened. At this point, Trooper Neil P. Mariotti pulled up to see if
he could be of any assistance. He had seen part of the tire on the
highway. He was friendly, courteous and professional, and he offered
to assist us in changing the tire, which he then proceeded to do.
Words cannot describe how grateful the two old folks were for the
trooper's assistance. In our view, his actions were above and beyond
the call of duty. We are fortunate to have officers such as Trooper
Mariotti serving in the Florida Highway Patrol.
