Colonel John T. Czernis:
On 29 December 2008, at approximately 1420, just exiting I-4 in Lakeland, I was stopped by a Florida State Highway Patrol Officer for a traffic violation. I am not a well known senator or actor, but just a black man who can tell when he has been discriminated against or made to feel lower than the dirt underneath ones feet. This time that was not the case. I want you to know that I really appreciate the time and effort you invested in hiring this Trooper, because his appearance, demeanor and professionalism were validated as outstanding on this day. The method in which he engaged and coached me thru my deficiencies, by maximizing fair and equitable treatment, and minimizing any negative effect was nothing less than a preeminent performance. I am proud to know that this trooper is a part of my community and I would like to request that his talents be afforded an opportunity to be passed on to others within your small corps. I don’t know what type of awards are given for a trooper doing their job, maybe none, but at a minimum, Trooper D.P Lewis, I.D.# 2491, should at least know from you, that he deserves the acknowledgment of a JOB WELL DONE!
Sincerely,
Carl S. Brown
