While the wife and I were out for a Friday afternoon drive I was stopped by Tpr. G.B. Sullivan in Fanning Springs Fl. Understanding the danger all law enforcement officers are faced with, I informed him that I was armed (but not dangerous) . At that time his training and display of professionalism was tops. He followed protocol to the letter but at the same time made us feel comfortable. I told him where the gun was located and that it had a round in the chamber. He asked me to exit my car and stand at the rear of the vehicle and asked permission to take the gun. I have no problem with this procedure. The wife and I both have weapons permits and have no problem with allowing the officer to hold and unload weapons during stops. We feel that safety for the officer is of the utmost importance. The wife and I feel proud that we have state troopers like yours and all law men and women in our state. Being born in this state over 71 years ago, I have seen how crime has taken it’s toll on the men and women that protect us. And it pains our hearts when we hear of any officer killed or injured in the line of duty.
Again I want to thank you for training your troopers as you have trained Tpr. Sullivan.
