I am writing this in regards to Trooper Michael Marcella to say thanks for the assistance rendered to myself on the night of October 19, 2007. While returning home fro a much needed vacation to Alabama, I was traveling along with my mother on Florida's Turnpike when I suffered a blowout on our vehicle. The incident occurred in the area of MM 225 in the southbound lanes. I called *FHP and was contacted with the Lakeland Regional Communications Center. They attempted to transfer me to the Lake Worth Communications center, with no answer from Lake Worth. The duty officer gave me a direct number to Lake Worth and when I was able to contact Lake Worth to request assistance. Trooper Marcella responded and explained my need for some type of emergency lighting, due to the low lighting and the high speeds of passing motorists. Trooper Marcella placed his marked Patrol Vehicle where it provided a safety area for myself. I was unable to remove the lug nuts from my tire, even with Trooper Marcellas assistance. Trooper Marcella attempted to remove the lug nuts himself, even though he did NOT have to. Trooper Marcella then requested Road Rangers to respond, and with the assistance from Road Rangers, we were finally able to change the tire.
I just wanted to say thanks to Trooper Marcella for his assistance in the dark of night, where being on the side of the road can be a dangerous location with cars and trucks traveling at a high rate of speed. I have seen first hand the tragedy that can occur while on the side of the road, while working for a funeral transport company contracted to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Please attach a copy of this email to Trooper Marcellas file and extend my thanks to him.
Sincerely, Keith Lanford
