I was involved in a traffic incident yesterday while traveling to a meeting in Deerfield Beach via the Sawgrass Expressway. The Report number is FHPK07OFF049530 and was taken by Trooper Lopez.

The incident occurred when a Waste Management truck lost its drive shaft in the middle of the highway. Seeing something that large in the middle of the highway with no time to react or room to move out of the way was by far the most freighting thing I have ever experienced (not to mention I was in a car that I just purchased 5 days prior with only 280 miles on it).

When Trooper Lopez arrived at my car he immediately calmed me down and reassured me that everything would be okay. I wanted to take a moment to recognize and thank him for his compassion at such a horrible moment. I think he recognized how unnerved I was by the events and really just took an extra moment to not only collect the information he needed to process his reports but really to reassure me that everything would be okay. For his actions I am very grateful.

After being on the side of the Expressway for over two hours I am now acutely aware of how dangerous our road ways can be. It is beyond my comprehension how anyone can get beyond the danger of being out there and choose to be there everyday - I am forever grateful that Trooper Lopez was there yesterday.

Thank you again for your time, please pass along my sincerest appreciation to Trooper Lopez.

Sincerely,

Dena Van Winkle
Sunrise, FL
