My name is Steve Russell. I wrote a letter on 9/20/2005 thanking your Troopers for there unwavering help after hurricane Katrina.
I just wanted to reiterate that thanks, it has meant more than you can possibly know.
Many Agencies have come and gone during this, the recovery process. However, the one agency that is imprinted in my mind as the true "first responders" is the Florida Highway Patrol.
As I mentioned in my previous letter, my father was a Kentucky State Trooper before going with the ATF in the late 60's. Is all I have heard all my life is how great the Kentucky State Police are. Now the Kentucky State Police are here, and they truly are a terrific bunch, however, is all they hear from my father is how great the Florida Highway Patrol is.
You, the Florida Highway Patrol, helped us start our recovery process on a good note because of your compassion, dedication and leadership, for that I am grateful.
Troopers Mike Mattiza, and the muscular Trooper that loves the Marine Corp and drives the Camaro, and everyone else who's name I can't recall but who's actions I will never forget, will forever be in the hearts and minds of those of us in Diamondhead, Mississippi who you helped to stand on our own feet again.
I don't want anyone to think I'm going soft or anything, I just want you to know we haven't forgotten what you all did for us in our time of need, and we are grateful!
With Kindest Regards,
