My husband and I want to tell you how much we appreciated the help we got from Trooper Shaun Nickel on March 5th.
We were on I-4 east of milemarker 4 around 8:30 p.m. in the lane next to the cement barricade when something tore a gash in the side of our rear passenger tire. When we came to the end of the barricade, my husband pulled off to the right side of the road, just before the Martin Luther King Boulevard exit. We called AAA for assistance.
As we were on the phone with AAA, Trooper Nickel pulled in behind us. He asked what our problem was, and I explained. He asked how long AAA would take to reach us. I told him AAA said an hour. He asked if we had a spare tire. I said we did, and he said he would change the tire for us.
I got everything out of the trunk and Trooper Nickel changed the tire in 15 minutes or less. Since my husband is disabled and I am not strong enough to even get the spare out of the trunk, Trooper Nickel seemed like a real miracle to us.
We were very impressed by his kindness and efficiency and by the fact that the Florida Highway Patrol apparently realizes that getting disabled motorists on the way and off the side of the road, where they may distract other motorists, is important for public safety.
We asked for Trooper Nickel's name so that we could tell you how wonderful this young man is. Please give him the pat on the back he so richly deserves.
