COL. Knight. I just wanted to bring attention to two outstanding FHPA
members here in Troop A. Last Friday night Sgt. Randy Kafka (FHPA) and Tpr.
Ron Scott (FHPA) were patrolling Interstate 10 in Santa Rosa County when
they found themselves behind a driver they thought to be impaired. They
radioed their information to dispatch who sent me to check the driver. Upon
my arrival they had the vehicle stopped and the driver's license in hand.
After some conversation and field sobriety exercises, I determined that the
driver was in fact impaired and I arrested him for DUI. He later gave a
breath sample at the jail which was .242....as you know well over the legal
limit. I know they were just doing their jobs, but their added presence on
the roads makes us more effective, and their diligence last Friday night got
a potentially dangerous person off the interstate, since I was the only
Trooper not occupied on a crash at the time. I got the credit for the
arrest but it would noy have happened without the Florida Highway Patrol
Trooper Robert H. Williams
