Congratulations to Duty Officer Telisa McCray for being selected as the Florida Highway Patrol Duty Officer of the Quarter for April thru June 2010, for her teamwork while dispatching an incident in Troop H.

The Tallahassee Regional Communications Center received a letter from Trooper Jimmy Love wishing to express his gratitude for the expert assistance that McCray provided on the evening of May 16, 2010.

Trooper Love encountered a hitchhiker on Interstate-10 in Leon County, and the situation quickly escalated when the individual became combative. A physical confrontation ensued as the trooper attempted to arrest the hitchhiker. Love recalled a very calm demeanor over the radio as he later described the incident as “chaos”. While McCray was relaying his current location to back up officers, Love’s hand-held radio temporarily failed while he was struggling with the hitchhiker.

The trooper closed his letter with a statement regarding that this was not the first time and possibly not the last time that he could encounter such a situation while doing his job, but he was very thankful that McCray was doing hers.

McCray’s performance exemplifies what our duty officers must be prepared to handle at any given time. The Patrol congratulates Duty Officer McCray on her selection as the Florida Highway Patrol Duty Officer of the Quarter for April through June 2010.
