Troop B participated once again by manning a booth at the annual Columbia County Fair in Lake City. This year, the focus was on child safety. Parents and Guardians were given the opportunity to have their child's fingerprints made for identification purposes. Having a record of a child's fingerprints can help law enforcement in the event that a child is ever missing. Several members of the Troop B Florida Highway Patrol Auxiliary volunteered their time to provide over 300 identification fingerprints of children to their parents who attended the 10-day fair.

In addition to providing child identification fingerprints, FHP members displayed a variety of child restraints, which are available to needy children through FHP's statewide Child Passenger Safety Program, sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation. Lt. Mike Burroughs and members of the FHPA distributed and redeemed vouchers for over 250 booster seats made possible through Columbia County's United Way and Ford Motor Company's popular Boost America program.
