IACP Chief’s Challenge

The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) recognized the Florida Highway Patrol as having the top traffic safety & enforcement program in the country during 2004 in the category of State Police/Highway Patrols with 1,601-3,000 officers. Colonel Chris Knight received the award at the IACP Annual Conference held in Miami, September 23-28, 2005. This is the third time FHP has won this award since 1994. The prestigious award recognizes the outstanding accomplishments of law enforcement agencies across the United States and their efforts to make their communities safer. Each year, traffic crashes in the United States claim over 40,000 lives and cost Americans over $150 billion. However, far more people survive these crashes than die, sometimes with lifelong debilitating injuries. Over 3 million injuries were documented in police-reported crashes during 2004. The IACP Law Enforcement Challenge program, targets five major traffic safety priorities: Agency Policy; Officer Training; Public Information & Education; Enforcement; and Effectiveness.

Florida Champions Award

The Florida Highway Patrol’s Troop G was selected as having the top traffic safety & enforcement program in the state of Florida for 2004. Troop G is a three-time winner of FHP's Top Troop Award and was moved into a competition category Champions Class against past winners for municipal police agencies and sheriffs offices across Florida. The extra effort of the men and women of FHP's Troop G, who serve the citizens and visitors of Northeast Florida, truly does make a difference in saving lives. Congratulations!

Troop Challenge Award

The FHP Troop Challenge is an award sponsored by Buckle Up Florida, which has law enforcement executives from around the United States judge the same criteria as the National IACP program. This year, nine of the ten troops participated in a competition that examined each troop’s policy, training, public information & education, enforcement, and effectiveness. Troop A was selected as this year’s Top Troop, representing a significant accomplishment for the sworn and civilian employees that make up this troop in the panhandle region of Northwest Florida. Congratulations to Troop A and all of Florida's troopers for their efforts each day.
