The Florida Highway Patrol and other state agencies participated in a safety fair at North Broward Medical Center in recognition of National Safety Month. The event, sponsored by North Broward Medical Center and Wackenhut Security, encouraged Medical Center staff and members of the public attending the local event to adopt safe driving practices and become more aware of general safety and security issues.

Members of the FHP, Department of Transportation, and SMART SunGuide Traffic Management Center distributed safety pamphlets and information regarding the Road Ranger program and the new 511 traffic information system. Staff from DHSMV’s Division of Driver Licenses brought the FLOWMOBILE to provide driver license services and stress the importance of the Emergency Contact Website.

Sergeant Mark Wysocky, Troop L Public Affairs Officer, Auxiliary Troopers Wayne Meltzer and Joe Cammarata invited some volunteers to ride the Seat Belt Convincer to demonstrate the importance of wearing a seat belt while others strapped on Fatal Vision goggles to simulate the dangers of drinking and driving. Trooper Conya Bassett set up a Child Safety Seat Display and spoke with parents and caregivers about the importance of using the proper child seat and having seats installed properly.
