On Thursday, August 30th, two of our troopers and a Wakulla County Sergeant, along with their assigned K-9s, graduated after undergoing a 320-hour intensive drug detection training course. The three K-9 teams in this class have now earned certification under the standards set forth by the Florida Highway Patrol Contraband Interdiction Program, the National Forensic Institute at Florida International University, and the standards of the United States Customs Narcotic Detection Dog Manual.
The new graduates and their instructor, Trooper Michael Van Leer, gave an impressive demonstration of the handling and drug detection skills learned by the teams during a special graduation ceremony held at GHQ. Certificates were presented and kudos offered at the ceremony. Congratulations to the new graduates!
