Trooper Michael Olaciregui
On June 20, 2006, Trooper Michael Olaciregui had the unfortunate task of investigating a serious vehicle crash where a female driver and a six year old boy named Jimmy were injured. On the crash scene, Trooper Olaciregui was quite taken by the young boy for displaying such courage after the tragic crash. Trooper Olaciregui assured the boy that troopers would take good care of him until another family member arrived.
Unknown to Trooper Olaciregui, a search had begun in Stuart, Florida for a young boy named Jimmy Dejesus. After a family dispute, a female had removed Jimmy from his summer camp earlier in the day. The Stuart Police Department had requested a statewide Amber Alert for him. As Trooper Olaciregui's shift came to an end, something amazing happened. During a local TV newscast, a breaking story reported that a six year boy by the name of Jimmy was missing from Stuart, Florida.
Without hesitation, Trooper Olaciregui immediately responded back to the hospital before the female could possibly flee with Jimmy again. Trooper Olaciregui found Jimmy still with medical personnel recovering from his injuries. After alerting the Stuart Police that Jimmy had been found and was in good hands, his mother was called. She rushed to the hospital. The suspect was arrested on felony charges.
Trooper Olaciregui, who recently became a new father, expressed that he could not imagine the fear that Jimmy's parents felt when they discovered that he was missing. Special thanks to Stuart Police detective Michael Gerwan and all of the women and men of the Florida Highway Patrol who help protect children everyday.
