With the Annual Average Daily Traffic Count averaging over 63,000 vehicles daily in Troop B, it is imperative that Florida Highway Patrol troopers keep a constant vigilance on speeding motorists.

Troopers commonly conduct stationary speed details on Interstate 75 in Troop B to help reduce speed-related fatalities. Troopers in Troop B issued over 16,000 speeding citations in 2006. Speed-related fatalities normally account for approximately 25% of all traffic deaths in Florida.

Captain Tim Culhane, Troop B Lake City District Commander, created a program called Suwannee Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.) to decrease hazardous moving violations that were leading to serious injury and fatality crashes in Suwannee County. Operation S.T.E.P. generated over 5,411 speed arrests in 2006. The Florida Highway Patrol encourages all motorists to “Slow Down” and “ARRIVE ALIVE.”
