When the Columbia County Traffic Safety Team presented a “DUI Mock Crash” to the students at Columbia County High School, many law enforcement, fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS) personnel from Columbia County participated in the event, including the Florida Highway Patrol's Troop B. Various community businesses assisted in making it a success by donating goods and services. The Mock Crash was presented the day before the Columbia High School Prom.

Jenn Carpenter, the daughter of Major Rick Carpenter, Troop B Commander, played the role of a typical teenager out on a prom date. She doesn't make it home that night because she was killed by her date who was driving impaired. Her part required that she be coated in a sticky red food-based gelatin to resemble blood, be zipped into a real “body bag”, and carted away in a hearse - all in 85 degree weather while in a prom dress.

The Mock DUI Crash presentation had an impact upon the juniors and seniors that attended the event. Fortunately, there were no serious injury or fatal crashes during prom night in Columbia County.
