Sergeant Smith
Sergeant Harold Rowdy Smith

Sergeant Harold Rowdy Smith was recently working hire-back for the Florida Department of Transportation at the Interstate 95 Rest Area in southern St. Johns County when a St. Johns County Sheriff’s Deputy advised him that they were looking for an individual who was suspected of raping an elderly woman in Ponte Vedra Beach and was thought to be in the area. The deputy described the suspect and showed his picture to Sgt. Smith so he could be on the look-out for him.

Sgt. Smith decided to patrol the area and eventually traveled south on US Hwy 1 into Flagler County. He was searching the area off Old Kings Road when he noticed a male dressed in camouflage walking along the side of the road carrying a set of num chucks. Sergeant Smith approached the suspect, quickly disarmed him, and placed him in handcuffs. A pat-down of the suspect revealed an empty pistol holster and New York identification. After realizing this was the rape suspect, Sgt. Smith took him into custody and turned him over to the St. John’s Sheriff’s Office for processing. Great work Sgt. Smith!
