For the safety of motorists and because of the obvious danger to human life, pedestrians are not allowed to walk on or cross the Florida Turnpike, which is a limited access highway.

However, Troopers Chester Everett and Hector Colon were recently dispatched to deal with an unruly alligator that was attempting to cross the lanes of the Florida Turnpike. To make matters worse, the gator was not cooperating with a lawful order to leave the roadway. In fact, the gator actually smiled at Trooper Everett upon his arrival.

In the end, the nine foot gator was removed from the roadway and kept a safe distance away while the troopers waited for a local trapper to remove him, but not before a few photos were snapped to record the incident.

As the spring mating season of the Florida alligator gets underway, gators often wander out of their territory in search of companionship, crossing roadways and entering communities. Sometimes they can be the cause of crashes as drivers try to avoid a collision with them. So, motorists certainly need to be careful when gators are about.
