What started as a traffic stop of a speeder who was tailgating other motorists on Interstate 75 in Sumter County, ended with one of our troopers making a drug bust that landed that driver in jail. Not only was the driver guilty of violating traffic laws, he was transporting over twenty-five pounds of marijuana.

Upon stopping the driver, Brooksville District Trooper Hazen Ogden detected an odor of marijuana while speaking to the driver regarding his driving habits. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed the package of marijuana concealed in the vehicle’s trunk. Without incident, the subject was placed under arrest and booked into the Sumter County Jail.

Another traffic stop for unlawful speed on I-75 in Sumter County uncovered close to 200 Ecstasy pills and a loaded hand gun that was in the possession of a convicted felon. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and the drugs and firearm were taken off Florida’s highways.
