A record 180 retirees attended the Saturday fish fry and Academy tour as part of the Florida Highway Patrol Retired Personnel Association’s (FHPR) semi-annual reunion held May 19-20 in Tallahassee. The FHPR was organized in 1985 by a small group of retirees who recognized the need for retired members to maintain ties with one another. Membership in the association is open to all full-time personnel who retired from the FHP. Two informal gatherings are held each year to allow retirees to socialize and receive valuable information of interest to the retired members.

After retirees held their semi-annual meeting at the Holiday Inn and Suites, they headed to the new FHP Academy at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Training Facility in Gadsden County for a welcome from Colonel Chris Knight, followed by a walking tour of the Academy, and a noon fish fry hosted by the local unit of the FHP Auxiliary. All who attended the event had the opportunity to catch up with old friends, reflect on times past, and remember those we lost along the way.
