Troop H kicked off their Operation Safe Break on March 18th, 2005, in Franklin County. The operation was a joint enforcement detail involving FHP and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Troop H's pilot, Lt. Tom Mallow, flew speed enforcement over the St. George Island bridge. In addition, laser enforcement details were strategically placed along US 98, equipment and drivers license checks were conducted at the entrance to St. George Island, and extra drug interdiction teams patrolled the area.

Also participating in Operation Safe Break were personnel from the Division of Alcohol, Beverage and Tobacco who helped enforce underage drinking. The operation sent a strong message to the motoring public: Aggressive driving and drunk driving are not tolerated in Florida. Residents and visitors were very appreciative of our combined efforts to keep the roadways safe during Safe Break 2005.
