Major Guzman presents Certificates of Appreciation to Assistant State Attorneys
Major Miguel Guzman presents Certificates of Appreciation to Assistant State Attorneys

Recently, the State Attorney’s Office of the 15th Judicial Circuit developed a training program with the Florida Highway Patrol targeting Driving Under the Influence (D.U.I.) detection and enforcement. The program, created by Elizabeth Parker, paired Assistant State Attorneys (ASA) with troopers on ride alongs for five-hour shifts. During the ride alongs the Attorneys educated the troopers regarding all aspects of D.U.I. from detection to prosecution. The ASAs taught the troopers evolving case law, investigative techniques including the importance of detailed and thorough report writing, and current trends in D.U.I. prosecution. The training was deemed a success not only by the ASAs but also by the law enforcement community as a whole. The program helped prosecutors gain an understanding of the day to day investigation traffic enforcement troopers must handle. At the conclusion of the program, Major Miguel A. Guzman, Troop L's Troop Commander, presented each of the Attorneys with Certificates of Appreciation.
