Florida Highway Patrol Troop Commanders from Troops B, G, and H participated in the Florida Department of Transportation’s Safety Roundtable meeting held in Lake City. The roundtable discussions were a continuation of Florida’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan, a roadmap developed by the people of Florida to save lives and prevent injuries on our highways. FHP Major Rick Carpenter (Troop B), FHP Major Mark Trammell (Troop H), FHP Major Grady Carrick (Troop G), and FHP Lt. Mike Burroughs participated in the discussions.

The purpose of Florida's Strategic Highway Safety Plan is to focus funding and other resources strategically on those problem areas where the opportunity for improvement is greatest, measured by reduction in fatalities and serious injuries. Improving the safety of Florida's surface transportation system for residents and visitors is the unifying goal of Florida's safety community and the overarching goal of Florida's Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP). The SHSP identifies strategic safety priorities in both public and private agencies and organizations at the national, state, regional, and local levels.

Decreasing the number of accidents that occur every year on our roads will take the commitment and sustained efforts of partners at the local, state, and federal levels and in the private sector. By working together in the areas of engineering, enforcement, education, and emergency response, we can achieve success and increase safety for everyone on the road. FHP Director Colonel Chris Knight has partnered with FDOT and other entities through a Memorandum of Understanding to show the commitment of the Florida Highway Patrol to achieve this mission.
