On March 21, 2007, the Florida Highway Patrol was presented an asset sharing check for a currency seizure that occurred back in 2000. The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration, Broward Sheriff's Office, and the City of Miami Police Department. This joint investigation resulted in the apprehension of a major cocaine trafficker who was responsible for importing over 1000 kilograms of cocaine into the United States per month throughout the 90's. Trooper Alejandro Rodriguez and K-9 Lex were responsible for locating 2.5 million dollars in US Currency during a search of the suspect's home. The Florida Highway Patrol Troop E K-9 Unit is proud of its relationship with federal law enforcement and is committed to assisting the federal government in large scale narcotics and money laundering investigations. The check, presented by Hon. R. Alejandro Acosta, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, was in the amount of $124,978.38. This amount represents the net proceeds given to the Florida Highway Patrol for its contribution to this case.

A closer view of the check.
