Trooper Mary Jackson, Troop E's Occupant Protection Specialist (OPS), recently partnered with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) and Key Largo Fire Rescue to hold a series of child car seat checks throughout the Florida Keys in observance of National Child Passenger Safety Week. Car seat checks were held in Key West, Marathon, Islamorada and Key Largo. Under the Florida Department of Transportation grants for the Florida Highway Patrol and the MCSO, the combined agencies checked over 95 seats, and replaced over a dozen defective seats during the weeklong operation. Key Largo Fire Rescue destroyed defective seats that were found using the hydraulic rescue "Jaws of Life".
