students to promote their Committed to Safe Driving pledge campaign.

On January 19, the Florida Highway Patrol joined forces with the students at Martin County High School to help promote the Committed To Safe Driving pledge campaign. After the tragic death of two area teenagers in a vehicle crash, the students at Martin County High School helped create a symbol to raise awareness among all drivers to demonstrate safe driving skills. Students are not just targeting teen drivers, but anyone who gets behind the wheel, regardless of age.

During the campaign, students issue a Committed To Safe Driving decal to drivers who sign a safe driving pledge. The pledge list contains nine points that drivers must agree to, such as wearing seat belts, driving courteously, maintaining a clean driving record, and not driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Troop L’s Ft. Pierce District Commander, Captain Deryl Loar, spoke at the local press conference, expressing enthusiasm and total support from the Florida Highway Patrol to promote the campaign throughout this community and, hopefully, across the state.
