FHP was recently invited to demonstrate the importance of seat belt safety to the Sante Fe High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group in Alachua, Florida. Auxiliary member Chuck Brabham assisted Lt. Burroughs in operating the seat belt convincer to show the students the importance of wearing their seat belts every time they get in a car. One of the SADD officers volunteered to ride in the convincer. Many of the teens in the audience expressed their surprise at the impact of a 10 mile per hour ride as they watched one of their own hit the bottom of the convincer's sled and get restrained by the seat belt. The experience really opened their eyes to the necessity of wearing a seat belt to prevent ejection and stay safe in a vehicle.
