Recently, Trooper Chris Ellison was working a Sunpass Toll enforcement detail in Southern Miami Dade County on the Florida Turnpike when he was contacted by two Florida Department of Law Enforcement Agents. They requested his assistance in attempting to apprehend an armed murder suspect headed his way. They positioned themselves for a felony traffic stop as the suspect vehicle exited the Turnpike. However, before they could make the felony traffic stop on the suspect, he abruptly stopped his vehicle, got out of his car, and fled on foot, holding a firearm. As the trooper and FDLE agents surrounded the suspect, he held the firearm to his head and then discharged the weapon into the air before eventually dropping the firearm. The suspect was wanted for the murder of his former girlfriend who was killed earlier that morning. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident and transferred to detectives with the Metro Miami Dade Police Department who were conducting the original homicide investigation.
