Employees from the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles participated in the Florida Missing Children event held at the State Capitol Sept. 12, 2011. The Department’s team assisted with escorting school children around the Capitol for the event. Uniformed members of the Florida Highway Patrol escorted the families of missing children to Gov. Rick Scott, who presented them with a rose to place on a photograph of their family member. The Governor and First Lady Ann Scott also recognized a trooper as the law enforcement officer of the year for his efforts to apprehend a man who had abducted his former girlfriend and three children. Due to his alertness, he recognized the vehicle from an Amber Alert and took the necessary law enforcement action to rescue the victims from their captor, and arrest him.
