119th Final Formation

On Oct. 21, 2010, 42 new state troopers joined the ranks of the Florida Highway Patrol as the 119th Basic Recruit Class graduated from the FHP’s Law Enforcement Training Academy. "Fight as 1, Fight as a Team, We are Class 119" was the Basic Recruit Class’s motto. The graduation ceremony marked the conclusion of an intensive 27-week training period that prepares them for a career as a Florida State Trooper and instills the FHP’s core values of courtesy, service and protection.

Col. Czernis

"It is an honor to welcome our newest recruit class to the ranks," said Director of the Florida Highway Patrol, Colonel John Czernis. "Choosing to become a state trooper is a noble decision, one that requires personal sacrifice and the willingness to accept a tremendous amount of responsibility. We are proud of our history, and we are pleased to have new troopers to carry on FHP’s commitment toward a safer Florida. They will be a valuable addition to our future efforts to save lives."

Julie Jones, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles stated, "I am extremely proud of our newest state troopers. They have prepared themselves for a career in law enforcement that will help ensure the safety of millions of Floridians and visitors to our state each year. They will be an integral part of our public safety efforts, and we all will benefit from the tremendous commitment they have made to public service.

Exec. Dir. Jones

The 119th Basic Recruit Class began their training Apr. 18, 2010, and the 119th Certified Recruit Class joined them on Aug. 27, 2010. After completing their respective training at the Academy, the Basic and Certified Officer Recruits received their diplomas and badges, and Colonel Czernis administered the oath of office.

Lt. Gov. Kottkamp   DOC Sec. McNeil

The graduates and guests welcomed long-time supporter of the FHP, Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp. Former Tallahassee Police Chief and current Secretary of the Florida Department of Corrections, Walt McNeil delivered the keynote address for the graduation ceremony.

The Florida Highway Patrol is proud to welcome these men and women into their ranks. Florida’s newest state troopers from the 119th class will report for duty by Nov. 5, 2010 where they will begin a 10-week Field Training Officer (FTO) program. Upon successful completion of the FTO program, they will be released to solo patrol. Good luck Class 119!!
