Former State Trooper Douglas "Scott" Coley lost his battle with brain cancer and died on Saturday Apr. 17, 2010. Scott was committed to serving the citizens of the state of Florida and the Nation, and he did so proudly for 23 years. He began his law enforcement career as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol's 78th recruit class, which graduated on Apr. 30, 1987. Scott was assigned to Troop L-Broward Co. and spent 15 years working in both Troops L and K.

Scott and K-9 Buster were part of the first organized Florida Highway Patrol K-9 Academy in 1996. In 1997, Scott was assigned to the Florida Highway Patrol's Contraband Interdiction Program with K-9 Grim. Scott went on to work as a deputized member of the high profile and highly successful DEA task force. He resigned from the Florida Highway Patrol and was hired as a Detective by the City of Margate Police Department and assigned to the DEA Task Force.

After the tragic events of September 11, 2001, Scott felt the need to serve an even greater good and on Mar. 31, 2002, he began his career with the Federal Air Marshal Service. Scott Coley was a model civil servant and law enforcement officer and his personnel files with both agencies are filled with notes of appreciation and letters of commendation.

Scott was an instinctive law enforcement officer who was trusted, dependable, and dedicated. As a colleague and as a friend he will be sorely missed.
