On August 3rd the Florida Highway Patrol and Office of Learning and Development kicked off their inaugural Basic Duty Officer Training Class, which was held at the Florida Highway Patrol Training Academy. The new members were introduced to their duties and responsibilities and the vital role they will play as a duty officer. They had many hours of class room instructions as well as hands-on training with telephones, radio and computer aided dispatch equipment. During their training period they visited the Tallahassee Regional Communications Center where they spent several hours with trained duty officers. This training will ultimately lead to effectively trained dispatchers. Effective dispatching is crucial to the safety and efficiency of our troopers, other state law enforcement officers, and the citizens we serve. Plans have already been set in motion and the next class is scheduled for September 14-25, 2009. Special thanks should be given to members from the office of Learning and Development who worked closely with Duty Officer Supervisors and Duty Officers around the state to develop the training modules. Quality instructors remain a high priority and we will be selecting experienced Duty Officers from around the state to participate in future training classes.
